Our Safari Adventure

Last Saturday, we took the kids to the Harmony Safari Park. I have to tell ya, I think I had as much fun as the kids did! For $23, we were all able to drive through the animals' environment and feed them. The animals would come up to the car and we'd throw out the animal feed for them. There were tons of deer, llamas, rams, bisons, emus, a monkey, a zebra, and a camel, just to name a few! We had a very interesting experience with the camel. With the deer and rams we were able to have the windows pretty much rolled the whole way down and just throw the feed out on the ground and watch them that way, but the zebra, emus, and camel were tall enough to stick their heads through the windows so we had to have them rolled most of the way up. So the camel comes up to my window which was rolled down enough for him to stick his mouth in and we were feeding him that way. Then the zebra comes up too and was trying to eat. His teeth were bigger, or atleast more visible which made me too nervous to let him eat out of my hands, so I asked Johnny to roll my window down, "just a hair", so I could let him eat out of the bucket we had. Unfortunately I had forgotten and apparently he had too, that our front two windows are auto down. So he pushed the button and down it went....all the way. Within a split second I had a camel head in my lap! I just about lost it. I was just certain the thing was gonna attack me. Thankfully he didn't and somehow we managed to push his head back out the window and get the window rolled up. For the next half hour or so he didn't leave my side of the car though....I wonder if I'm the only idiot who's ever let him in? He sure seemed to enjoy it. He ate about half of our bucket in the minute he was in the car.
Anyways, after we drove through and saw all the animals in the enclosed area, we got out of car and got to walk through were the reptiles were. They had a separate enclosure for some tortioses and we got to walk in there and feed them lettuce. The kids loved this and were doing a great job at it....at first! Ryan stuck his finger a tad too close to the end of the lettuce and he got bit. Very tramatic at first, but now he talks with excitement about being bit by a turtle.

I've never heard of this place, but it sounds pretty cool! I would have freaked if a camel came through my window too! I was cracking up reading about it! I don't know if my kids would enjoy this or not. Abby Kate is terrified of things that are not supposed to be out her window. She really looses it when we go through the car wash.

Where was this at? I think my family went to the same place recently. They got some halarious pictures of animal's faces right in their windows with them smiling and making funny faces beside them. Too funny! I'm glad you didn't get attacked by the camel. I would have lost it, too. Glad ya'll had a fun time! We'll have to do this soon!

Wow, what a unique experience! I enjoyed hearing your "tales" about driving through and Ryan getting bit, poor guy, but he was a good sport about it. This looks like a really fun and educational trip! Glad you all have access to so many neat places to visit!
